The Democratic Republic of the Congo, also known as Congo-Kinshasa, the DROC, or the Congo, and formerly Zaire, is a country in Central Africa. It is, by area, the second largest country in Africa, and the 11th-largest in the world. With a population of 92 million is the most populous officially Francophone country in the world. It is a member of the United Nations, Non-Aligned Movement, African Union, and COMESA. Since 2015, the Eastern DR Congo has been the site of an ongoing conflict in Kivu
Economy:
It has declined drastically since the mid-1980s, despite being home to vast potential in natural resources and mineral wealth. At the time of its independence in 1960, it was the second most industrialized country in Africa after South Africa.  It boasted a thriving mining sector and its agriculture sector was relatively productive. Since then, decades of corruption, war and political instability have been a severe detriment to further growth, today leaving DRC with a low GDP per capita and HDI
