It is sometimes informally referred to as the Nilotic Republic (as the supposed place of origin of the Nilotic peoples). It gained independence from Sudan in 2011, making it the most recent sovereign state or country with widespread recognition as of 2022. It includes the vast swamp region of the Sudd, formed by the White Nile and known locally as the Bahr al Jabal meaning "Mountain River".
Economy:
The economy of South Sudan is one of the most oil dependent economies in the world, despite being endowed with bountiful natural resources. It has a very fertile agricultural land and vast number of livestock. The livestock include over 60 million cattle  sheep and goats. Political instability, poor governance, and corruption continue to hinder development in the world's youngest country.South Sudan is mostly undeveloped; most villages in the country have no electricity or running water
