Togo is a tropical, sub-Saharan nation whose economy depends mostly on agriculture. While the official language is French; other languages are spoken, particularly those of the Gbe family. The largest religious group is Christian (47.8%) with the second largest being those with indigenous beliefs. There is a significant Muslim minority. Togo is a member of the UN , African Union, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, South Atlantic Peace and Cooperation Zone, Francophonie, Commonwealth, and ECWAS
Economy:
It has struggled greatly. The IMF ranks it as the tenth poorest country in the world, with development undercut by political instability, lowered commodity prices, and external debts. While industry and services play a role, the economy is  dependent on subsistence agriculture, with industrialization and regional banking suffering major setbacks. In January 2017, the IMF signed an Extended Credit Facility arrangement, consisting of a three-year $238 million loan package
